“LINE IN THE SAND” è il progetto che Daniele Spanò ha ideato per il grande LED wall, costituito da 27 schermi, che caratterizza la galleria del Made in NY Media Center di IFP.
Il progetto è lo sviluppo di “Fino a qui” un lavoro antecedente che Spanò ha riadattato più volte a più luoghi e superfici, da Lucca, a Roma e San Pietroburgo. Questa volta, per New York, il progetto video è stato rivisto completamente, esploso in 27 canali e impreziosito dalla collaborazione con il sound designer Gup Alcaro.
Rimane saldo l’intento di Daniele Spanò di esplorare la relazione tra il corpo umano e lo schermo, considerando quest’ultimo non come una semplice superficie di proiezione, ma un punto di contatto tra il mondo reale e quello digitale. I performer Biagio Caravano e Roberta Zanardo si muovono come se fossero intrappolati all'interno dello schermo, colpendo violentemente la superficie del vetro o cercando con esso un’impossibile intimità.
“L’opera è cinetica nella sua simmetria, nel ritmo cadenzato, nella circolarità del movimento; è intensa e drammatica nell’espressione e nella moltiplicazione dei corpi, che forma una convulsa coreografia. Il suono descrive la fragilità del vetro e raggiunge momenti di alta tensione che sembrano farlo esplodere, per organizzarsi in musica quando i corpi dei performer diventano strumenti a percussione. Ancora una volta Daniele Spanò sintetizza la sua vicinanza al teatro e ai nuovi media, con una poetica inedita.” dichiara la curatrice Isabella Indolfi.
Non resta che riconoscersi in questa installazione come in uno specchio, che riflette la nostra incapacità di tracciare la linea di confine tra noi stessi e i dispositivi digitali.
Line in the Sand is a project created for the large LED wall, featuring 27 screens, showcased in the Made in NY Media Center by IFP media arts gallery.
The project is an elaboration of “Fino a qui”, a prior work that has been re-adapted several times for different surfaces and locations such as Lucca, Roma and San Petersburgh. For New York, the video project was completely revised, displayed on 27 channels, and enhanced by the collaboration of sound designer, Gup Alcaro.
It is a powerful exploration of the relationship between the human body and the screen. The setting is not a simple surface for projections, but a point of contact between the real and digital worlds. Performers Biagio Caravano and Roberta Zanardo move as if trapped within the screen, beating hard on the glass surface or seeking intimacy with it.
“The work is kinetic in its symmetry, in its rhythmic beat, in its circular movements. The expressions and multiplication of the bodies is intense and dramatic as they perform a convulsive choreography. The sound describes the fragility of the glass and reaches moments of extreme tension when the bodies of the performers become percussion instruments and it seems as if it will explode and transmute into music. Once again, Daniele Spanò incorporates his proximity to theater and new media with an original work of art,” Isabella Indolfi, curator.
The installation is a mirror reflecting our inability to draw a line between ourselves and digital devices.
